Tsunami places and Deep-south Muslim teachers to attend program in Hawaii

Sep 24, 2005 – East West Center, Hawaii- celebrates Fall 2005 Best Practice Institute to provide instructional strategies for global awareness. This program has invited Muslim teachers from Southern part of Thailand (Especially, Tsunami effect provinces and the deep-south provinces) 12 participants including with a number of Indonesian teachers and American teachers. Three nations will stay together for 3 weeks, also they have to work together and create the integrated curriculum, especially for English Language.

In the second week, they will have opportunity to visit mainland schools, and practice their understanding teaching theory for US school children. What’s happen to them will be continued?

August 25, 2005- British Council –Siam Square, Bangkok - celebrated Islamic Education discussion. The guess speakers are Prof. Tim Niblock, The director of Arabic Department, University of Exeter in UK, Dr. Surichai Wankhaew, Secretary of National Reconcilable Committee, Chulalongkorn University, and Dr. Sukree Lungputeh, Dean of Islamic Studies, Prince Songkla Nakarin University.

Dr. Surichai focused on the affective of religious studies in the south compared with the other part of Thailand. Then he showed the losing point in Thai curricula on religions, but the south they have got their own curriculum-Islamic Curriculum integrated with secular knowledge. They can conserve their own culture, language and tradition. He recommended on how the south people open their society and mind accepting the globalization.

Prof. Niblock compared between Thai society and England society, then recommended that religious education has an important role in all schools, particularly in breaking down cultural barriers brought about through misunderstanding.

Dr. Sukree had shown the role of Islam in the south and how Islamic School provided to their students. He described what Separatism and Islamism different, what the things that Muslim students gained from Islamic School. The last, what the government should provide for solving the situation problems nowadays.

Professional training workshop 'Presentation Skill'


The British Council presented professional training workshop on September 21-22, 2005 for the member of Thai-UK Alumni and Professional Network.

This 2-day course made us able to improve our skills in making presentations in a variety of situations, and develop the essential confidence to present effectively. A highly participative course during which we made and analysed two short presentations to the group, identify your strengths and areas for further improvement, and developed the language and audience management skills to ensure successful presentations.Issues covered include:

planning and structuring our presentation
ุbody language
effective language and signposting
dealing with questions
effective visual aids
assessing the needs of the audience
arranging the venue and handling equipment
